Free event celebrates city's unity one year after riots

IT has been one year since disorder erupted in Sunderland city centre, resulting in property being damaged, businesses looted and several police officers injured.

Today, the city is still recovering from the August 2 riots, according to an officer in charge of policing the area.

But on the site where burning cars stood 12 months ago, people gathered to celebrate unity and community in their hometown, with a free event, ‘One City One Voice!
