PROFITS rose at South Tyneside farmers' collective Grainco despite continued price volatility, latest accounts show.
The Tyneside-based group specialises in seed production, drying, storage, logistics and trading of UK grown grain and it is said to be the biggest farmer-owned business in the North of England and Scotland.
Latest accounts for the year ended June 30, 2025 show a drop in turnover, from £261m to £238.2m, but operating profit rose from £4.78m to £6.45m.
Pretax profit also increased, from £5.05m to £5.59m, and overall profit for the year was £4.03m - up from £3.77m.
Total equity stood at £34.13m, up from £31.1m. The business, which employs 59 staff, said it saw a continuation of price volatility in grain marketing during the year, but that ultimately the market continued its downward trend.
