Emphasis on carbon credits

June 25, 2025

I ATTENDED Northumberland County Council's Climate Change and Rural Land Use Conference at Kirkley Hall on Wednesday, June 18, and I was very impressed with the hospitality and the various speakers that had been lined up for the afternoon.

- Carron Craighead, Northumberland

We had Robert Addison from Hexham Mart who gave an oversight on the numbers of livestock through his mart and our NFU County Chair Mac Young, who spoke about the challenges we are all facing.

We also had two speakers from the council's climate change committee working on a grant from Innnovate and they have apparently contacted over 300 stakeholders over the last 18 months, 78 of which were farmers, to collate a picture of where rural Northumberland was at and the different possibilities of reducing carbon and other greenhouse gas emissions to get to net zero.
