Castle closes doors for 'major refurbishment'

A NORTHUMBERLAND castle has closed its doors until next summer as a “major refurbishment” gets under way.

Kielder Castle is set to reopen in August 2026, with improvements intended to make the castle more welcoming and accessible.
Forestry England says it will improve the cafe and toilet facilities as part of the body's long-term vision to revitalise the historic building for visitors exploring Kielder Forest.
It will be the first time there have been catering facilities within the castle since 2020.
