Cash injection for car plant following losses

Nissan’s Sunderland plant had only just celebrated beginning production of the new Leaf model

THE Nissan operation in Sunderland has received a £900m cash injection from its Japanese owners after recording massive losses in its latest accounts.

Accounts for Nissan Motor Manufacturing (UK) Limited have been published for the year ending March 30, 2025, in which the company made an £850m operating loss.

The company’s turnover fell from £7.4bn to £6.6bn during the period as the number of cars it produced went down to 276,000, having been at 325,000 a year earlier. Employment at the Sunderland plant fell by around 300 as the company closed a night shift on one of its production lines.
