SUNDERLAND'S loan players were out in force over the weekend, with promotion charges in full swing and several victories domestically and overseas.

Browne helps Boro continue fine run as loanees make mark

Patrick Roberts in action for Birmingham against Hull City

Alan Browne was involved as Middlesbrough beat Ipswich Town 2-1 in the Championship.

Boro's ascent continued with another valuable win as Browne played the full 90 minutes at the Riverside Stadium.

The Republic of Ireland midfielder was part of a side that beat the Tractor Boys thanks to a Cedric Kipre own goal and Morgan Whittaker’s second half finish.

It was Browne's sixth appearance of the season as Boro sit second in the table, one point behind leaders Coventry City ahead of tonight's game at Sheffield Wednesday.

Birmingham City's stuttering start to the Championship season continued with a 3-2 reverse at Hull City where Patrick Roberts made his sixth Blues appearance.

The 28-year-old winger played the full 90 minutes as Jay Stansfield scored a brace, but it was not enough.
