Brain tumour centre retains prestigious ‘excellence' status

BRAIN tumour medics at Newcastle's RVI are celebrating after again being awarded as a “centre of excellence”.

The neuro-oncology department at the RVI has retained its status as a Tessa Jowell Centre of Excellence - which is a prestigious honour highlighting the level of care patients receive. It reflects the “quality and range of treatment and care”.
The centre of excellence programme is named for the late Labour politician Dame Tessa Jowell, who died in 2018 after being diagnosed with a glioblastoma multiforme brain tumour.
The Newcastle Hospitals NHS Trust, which runs the RVI, first received the accreditation in March 2021.
