DISCOVER NATIONAL TRUST GARDENS NEAR YOU THIS SPRING AS THEY BURST INTO LIFE

SPRING is well underway and, as the days lengthen and the weather turns warmer, this is a great time to explore National Trust gardens near you. Take in the sights and scents of springtime gardens across the North East and Yorkshire. Your visit will help keep them blooming for many years to come. Here are some of the best gardens to explore...

WALLINGTON

Near Cambo, Northumberland

Once the home of the unconventional Trevelyan family, the house at Wallington is surrounded by gardens, woodland and farmland.

Discover the walled garden hidden in the East Wood. The stunning long White Border on the south side of the house, puts on a show right until autumn.

SEATON DELAVAL HALL

Seaton Sluice, Northumberland

The owners of Seaton Delaval Hall were flamboyant and their formal gardens are too. In the next few weeks, white and pink rhododendrons will flower alongside the pale orange of the azaleas.

All eyes will soon be on the laburnum arch as it blooms in a haze of yellow flowers.

GIBSIDE

Near Gateshead

This 18th-century landscape garden is the perfect place to escape the bustle of daily life. Laburnum, lilac and rhododendrons flower near the Orangery in May and in the wider landscape, wild orchids pop up in meadows and grassy banks.

ORMESBY HALL

Redcar and Cleveland
