An 'unforgettable figure' in politics

GATESHEAD Council alderman, councillor and former mayor Peter Mole has died aged 83.

Tributes have been paid to the former ceremonial mayor of Gateshead Peter Mole. Mr Mole had also served the residents of the former Wrekendyke ward and the current Wardley and Leam Lane ward as a councillor from 1976 to 2018.

Mr Mole also held six cabinet positions at Gateshead Council between 2022 and 2015, in addition to his role as the council's champion for older people. In 2006, Mr Mole was also awarded an MBE for services to local government as well as the Freedom of Gateshead in 2018.
