Enter the shower only after detangling because wet hair is more fragile and likely to break when tugged. Many people reach for shampoo as soon as they are under running water, but the first step is to soak the hair thoroughly. Lukewarm water works best because it loosens dirt and oil without weakening the hair or irritating the scalp.
