Former Navy Chief of Staff condemns UK for targeting Lankan military leaders to garner pro-Tiger votes

Former Navy Chief of Staff and ex-Public Security Minister Rear Admiral (Retd.) Sarath Weerasekera flayed the UK government over sanctions imposed on top military person nel including military leader Mayadunne Murallitharan, alias Karuna Amman, who rebelled against Prabahakaran’s autocratic rule.

The text of Weerasekera’s statement: “We vehemently condemn the British Government action regarding sanctions imposed on SL Army / Navy Generals and Admirals.

This is a clear Violation of Additional Protocol II of the Common Article 3 of the Geneva Convention which clearly mentions the Penal Prosecution pro secution dealing with prosecuting any ‘suspect’.
