The government is planning to set up a special task force to rid local councils of corruption, Deputy Minister Eranga Gunasekera has said.

The third tier of government has become synonymous with corruption and other such illegal practices, and therefore the need for such a mechanism cannot be overstated. It is fervently hoped that the government will implement its plan expeditiously. There should also be special anti-corruption task forces for Parliament and the Provincial Councils.
