Domi-NO: Pizzeria take away plans are blocked

PLANS for a new Domino's Pizza have been blocked by Kirklees Council's planning committee against the recommendation of officers.

The fast-food giant had hoped to transform the vacant ground floor of the former Barclays at 47 Huddersfield Road into a new takeaway.

But for the committee concerns over road safety, parking and impact on locals proved too great.

The meeting on Thursday heard from ward councillor, Clr Vivien Lees-Hamilton (Con, Mirfield), who had made her objection clear in the planning process.

She said there were “many valid planning reasons” to reject the application and expressed many concerns.

Among them were those relating to highways - including the site’s proximity to the local fire station - road safety, noise and inadequate ventilation.

She added: “The proposed unit in no way resembles the use as a bank or a shop unit - it's a completely different beast. There’s too much missing information and this application is not ready to be approved.”
