DIY waste can now be taken to tips for free

KIRKLEES residents can now dispose of household DIY waste for free at two of the council's Household Waste and Recycling Centres (HWRC).

Following changes in government legislation and new skips, HWRCs at Emerald Street in Huddersfield and Weaving Lane in Dewsbury can now accept small amounts of household DIY waste which can be disposed of for free. Examples include soil, clay and rubble such as bricks, concrete, sand, gravel, hardcore and paving slabs; ceramics, which include tiles, toilets, sinks and bathtubs; and plasterboard. Asbestos can also be disposed of safely at Emerald Street.

Householders must use the online booking system to book their free DIY Waste allocation ahead of their visit.

Each household is allocated a maximum of 12 visits per calendar year to dispose of their free DIY waste.
