Volunteering - what's in it for you?

FOR the last 15 years of my working life, I managed volunteers who helped in the running of a community centre and foodbank in Stonehouse.

Without doubt it was the most rewarding experience of my working life.

I would never let my volunteers refer to themselves as 'just a volunteer', pointing out that without them we could not open the doors in the mornings.

Since retiring two years ago, I decided I did not want to sit and twiddle my thumbs.
