Swinney says fishing rights 'surrendered'

POLITICAL opponents have lined up to attack the deal struck by the Government and Brussels.

Scottish First Minister John Swinney claimed the UK Government has “surrendered” fishing in its new deal with the European Union, as he insisted his own government had not been consulted about the agreement.

Mr Swinney spoke out after the Scottish Fishermen's Federation (SFF) branded the UK-EU deal, which could give European fishing boats access to UK waters for another 12 years, a “horror show" for the sector.

The First Minister said that the “fishing industry looks as if it’s been surrendered by the UK Government as part of its negotiations”.
