Ski resorts vie for giving best value

RELATIVELY unknown Nordic resorts are rivalling Italy and Bulgaria as Europe's best value ski trip destinations, according to new research.

Beitostolen, Geilo and Pyha have broken into the Post Office Travel Money's top 10 ranking of the lowest-priced destinations for UK skiers.

The annual research takes into account costs such as ski passes, equipment hire, refreshments on the slopes and tuition for a family of four spending a week at 30 European winter sports resorts.

The fall in the value of sterling means the spending power of UK skiers is lower than a year ago at all the resorts surveyed except Andorra's Soldeu.

Prices are up by an average of 10% across the destinations analysed.
