'THE HOSPITALITY SECTOR HAS FACED MANY CHALLENGES'
A PLYMOUTH restaurant has shut suddenly after trading for less than 18 months.
The News Café opened with a fanfare at Plymouth’s Royal William Yard in August 2024 after a six-figure sum was spent on revamping the former Prezzo space in the Mills Bakery.
But yesterday its website announced the eatery had closed for good. It said: “We regret to inform you that our restaurant is now permanently closed. We want to thank all our wonderful customers for their support and loyalty.
“It’s been a pleasure serving you, and we're truly grateful for the memories we've shared.”
The closure announcement has been met with sadness on social media where Ria George wrote: “Nooooo000000, why? We really enjoyed it when we came, the food was lovely, drinks were yum and the staff were so friendly. You will be missed.” Maria Jackson said: "Oh no. We were only there last week. It was busy too, admittedly it was New Year's Day.”
Suze Edgar simply posted: “OMG, so sad.” And Maria Beresford said: “Really sad to read this. So sorry.”
Another person wrote: “I really enjoyed coming in. Sorry to hear this.”
