Ready to em-bark to Everest
The Herald
|March 13, 2025
A PLYMOUTH nurse will be embarking on the adventure of a lifetime this month when she treks to Base Camp Everest in support of abandoned and abused animals.
Caroline Lowe will scale altitudes of more than 5,000 metres on the 14-day adventure, which she hopes will raise hundreds of pounds for Woodside Animal Welfare Sanctuary. The Derriford Hospital nurse signed up to the epic adventure ahead of her 50th birthday and is days away from embarking on the trek, in memory of her mum Rita Ellis.
She said: "I was getting to the age of 50 and suddenly thought 'I want to do something with my life.' I saw an advert on Facebook and had always had a fascination with Everest, watching movies and documentaries, and thought 'I can do it."
