WAVERLEY IS WORLD'S LAST SEAGOING PADDLE SHIP

- By LORNA HUGHES

A FAMOUS paddle steamer will make a return to Plymouth next week for sailings including a sunset cruise.

The world’s last seagoing paddle steamer Waverley will be back in the South West later this month.

She will be in the region from Thursday, August 28 until Monday, September 1. The steamship will call at Plymouth as well as Penzance, Falmouth, Fowey, Plymouth and Dartmouth. The programme will also see her first public sailing from Torquay since the 1980s.

Once aboard Waverley passengers can savour the sight and sound of a real steamship - including hearing the telegraph ring, visiting the engine room and watching the engine start to move. They will also be able to see the paddles turning through the portholes.

Captain Dominic McCall, Waverley's Master, said: “We are thrilled to bring Waverley back to South Cornwall and South Devon after the success of her long-awaited return last year.
