Man who tackled abusive Co-op customer arrested

A MAN has been arrested for assault after allegedly tackling another man who attacked staff and abused customers in a Coop, but later died.

Video has emerged of a bald and shirtless man named locally as James and described as an ‘alcoholic’ by residents being restrained in a chokehold during a scuffle in the Cooperative store in Torpoint.

The footage shows the man wrestling with another shopper near the alcohol aisle of the supermarket in Fore Street, with three men seen holding onto the bald man at different points.

Residents have expressed sympathy to those restraining the abusive man, suggesting he was acting as a ‘Good Samaritan’ in coming to the aid of shop workers.
