IN COURT

IN many ways this was an unusual week in Plymouth Magistrates’ Court, not because of what happened, but because of what did not happen.

Almost every week for the last few years, a number of men and women have appeared in court to face the charges of either drinking and driving or taking drugs and driving.

This week there were none - which either means drink and drug drivers are finally getting the message that it is not a good idea or, more likely, they are being heard at a later stage.

Meanwhile, magistrates were left dealing with an individual who clearly does not like to purchase goods - particularly chocolates and meat - from a number of city convenience stores because she believes that stealing them was a fairer option. Magistrates fined her £50.

Meanwhile, a man who stole a RNLI charity box from a Barbican pub was jailed.
