PLANS are being worked on which would see Plymouth’s towering Moneycentre turned into a Hilton hotel with a restaurant on the top floor.

Developer THAT Group has submitted a pre-application to Plymouth City Council and wants to transform the nine-storey city centre building into a 168-bed Hampton-by-Hilton hotel, which could be open within two years.

The pre-application seeks to knock down the two-storey section of the building, which contains the shutdown Mambos nightclub, and convert the main building into a hotel. Architects at Kay Elliott, based in Torquay, have designed the scheme which proposes the demolition of the disused nightclub to make way for “a generous” hotel drop off area and public realm improvements.

The main building will be stripped back to its shell and transformed into a hotel with a bar/restaurant on the ninth floor, which will be open to the public. Commercial uses including a gym are proposed for the lower floors.
