DANN CALLS FOR BACKING AS URSU GETS HIS BIG FIGHT

- By ANDY PHILLIPS

PLYMOUTH boxer Constantin Ursu will be fighting for a continental title when he returns to the ring in November, with his clash with Ryan Amos now sanctioned for the WBO European welterweight crown.

Ursu was due to defend his Commonwealth strap against Amos at London's York Hall on Sunday, November 30, but the WBO have now added the European title to the prize for the victor.

Ursu - now dubbed the Moldovan Monster - has seen his stock rise dramatically in the last two-and-a-half years, only getting better as the quality of his opponents has risen.

From his capture of the Southern Area welterweight title against Matthew King, Ursu has stopped five of his six opponents - with only makeweight journeyman Octavian Gratii making the distance. But a European title would be a major attainment for Ursu, and also put him in line for a shot at the WBO world title.
