Gap between the richest and poorest revealed

THE gap between Cornwall's richest and poorest neighbourhoods has been revealed, with those at the top having nearly £10,000 more to spend a year than those at the bottom.

Households in the Shortlanesend, Chacewater & Carnon Downs neighbourhood of Cornwall had an average disposable income of £40,400 - the amount left after tax and other mandatory deductions and payments - in the financial year ending 2023. Discretionary income is what remains after essential costs such as rent/mortgage, food, transport.

That makes the area Cornwall’s highest-earning neighbourhood, according to new data released by the Office for National Statistics.

Saltash Town and Pillmere is not far behind, with £39,534; while households in Saltash Latchbrook and St Stephens had an average of £38,454 to spend, according to the data.
