AN employment adviser who once battled addiction and homelessness has been recognised as a national finalist in a prestigious awards ceremony honouring frontline employability workers.
Cameron Smith, based in Plymouth, has been shortlisted in the Frontline Adviser category at the Employment Related Services Association (ERSA) Awards. The winners are set to be announced at a ceremony held at Westminster Bridge.
The nomination acknowledges not only Cameron’s exceptional support for jobseekers but also his personal journey from crisis to purpose.
Now working with Seetec - an organisation helping individuals rebuild their lives through employment, training and rehabilitation - Cameron uses his lived experience to offer empathetic, practical guidance to those facing their own struggles.
At 17, the loss of his father triggered a downward spiral. He became homeless and dependent on alcohol and drugs, surviving by couch-surfing and staying in temporary accommodation. One day, a simple smile from a stranger sparked a turning point.
