MIDFIELDER IS KEY TO PILGRIMS' PROGRESS

- By CHRIS ERRINGTON

TOM Cleverley chopped and changed the Plymouth Argyle team throughout a challenging first half of the 2025/26 League One campaign.

Often it was due to the seemingly never-ending list of injuries, which continues even now with Bradley Ibrahim and Owen Oseni still out of action.

Cleverley also had to deal with suspensions. Argyle have had four players sent-off in League One this term and two of them - captain Joe Edwards and top scorer Lorent Tolaj missed three matches each as a result. And then there was the lack of consistent form among the Pilgrims' squad, which led to the head coach regularly changing his team, and tactics.

There has been a recent improvement in results and Argyle have edged up to 16th place in the table, although they have played more matches than seven of their eight teams below them and it is all very tight.
