Community 'will be at heart' of city masterplan

MORE details have been revealed about how an ambitious masterplan for Plymouth City Centre will take shape over the coming months.

The work for Plymouth City Council will be led by professional services firm WSP and a multi disciplinary team who will work closely with communities to co-design a framework for up to 10,000 new homes, alongside green streets, cultural spaces and modern infrastructure that supports walking, cycling and public transport.

Costing nearly £1 million, the plan will be carried out in three phases firstly building a picture of Plymouth today and shaping an early vision. Options will then be refined for the city living development framework and city centre masterplan.

Finally there will be detailed reports produced and 3D models.

The council says the community will be “at the heart of this process” and residents, businesses and local groups will have multiple opportunities to get involved through surveys, popup events, and co-design workshops.

An interactive online platform “Plymouth Listens” is expected to make it easy for people to explore ideas and share feedback and every stage will include clear updates showing how public input is shaping the plans.
