280 arrests as raids target illegal workers
The Herald
|August 09, 2025
HUNDREDS of arrests have been made as part of what the Government called a “week-long crackdown” on asylum seekers taking jobs for delivery firms.
-
A total of 1,780 people were stopped and spoken to at locations across the UK over suspected illegal working activity between July 20 and 27.
Some 280 were arrested as a result, in areas including Hillingdon in northwest London, Dumfries in Scotland, and Birmingham, the Home Office said.
Some 53 people are now having their asylum support reviewed, which the Government said could result in their support being suspended or withdrawn.

REGARDING recent newspaper reports about compulsory eye tests for the over-70s, as we have to renew our licences every three years anyway, I really cannot see that this will be a problem for most people of that age.

THOUGHT OF THE DAY
Although I am well aware that social media is largely an echo chamber that will feed back to you what you search for, there are no shortage of videos and articles about fashionable dressing for men, while vintage clothing is no longer merely bagged up and donated to charity shops but can yield high prices on re-sale sites such as eBay and Vinted.
