Saturn set to put on a rare show for stargazers this month, experts say
The Guardian
|September 11, 2025
It has baffled minds as great as Galileo's, inspired composers and fuelled sci-fi fantasies, but while Saturn will be on show all this month, will anyone be watching?
The ringed gas giant will be highly visible in the night sky, reaching its brightest on 21 September when Earth will sit directly between Saturn and the sun - a configuration known as opposition.
What's more, the planet will have an unusual appearance, with its rings nearly edge-on as seen from Earth after an event known as a "ring crossing" that happens every 15 years or so when the planet is at equinox.

Theatre review Sarandon shines in a slippery study of self
If there is something familiar about a play comprising disparate scenes from one woman's life, performed by five different actors, that is because it was the central conceit of Annie Ernaux's book The Years, adapted for stage last year.
