CMA launches bid-rigging investigation into school contractors
The Guardian
|December 12, 2024
An investigation was launched yesterday into allegations that several roofing and construction firms illegally colluded to rig bids to win contracts for repairing schools.
The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) said it suspected the companies, including building contractors and technical advisers, had combined to fix bids for work under the government's condition improvement fund, in particular for roofing jobs.
The watchdog, led by the chief executive, Sarah Cardell, did not name any of the companies under investigation. It has carried out surprise inspections at several businesses to gather evidence, including physical and digital documents, and is working closely with the Department for Education (DfE).
