Civil-Military Relations in J&K
The Global Kashmir
|June 15, 2025
IT'S NO LONGER JUST ABOUT GUARDING BORDERS-IT'S ABOUT BUILDING COMMUNITIES, UPLIFTING LIVES, AND WALKING TOGETHER TOWARD A PEACEFUL AND PROSPEROUS FUTURE.

When we talk about Jammu and Kashmir, one thing that stands out is the significant presence of the Indian Army. But what's even more important is how the army and the local people have developed a meaningful, growing relationship over the years.
This bond isn't just about security anymore—it's about cooperation, trust, and working together to build a peaceful and prosperous future. Jammu and Kashmir has always held a key place on India's map, and because of its strategic location, the military has played an important role here. The brave soldiers of the Indian Army have not only guarded the borders but have also extended their hand of friendship to the people living in the region.
The army's presence ensures that peace and stability are maintained, and over time, this has helped create a safer environment where development can take place. Many people in the villages close to the Line of Control (LoC), such as Keran, Tangdhar, Gurez, and Machil, appreciate the army’s role in making their homes safer and their lives better. One of the turning points in civil-military relations was the launch of Operation Sadbhavana (Goodwill Mission). This program has created bridges of trust between the army and the local population. Under this initiative, the army has built schools, provided medical support, improved road connectivity, and organized community development projects in some of the remotest areas.
