Thug kicked and stamped on his former girlfriend in brutal attack

Callous Sam Cannell lured the unsuspecting woman to his house after they had split then demanded her phone and launched a sustained attack.

Teesside Crown Court heard the 20-year-old punched her to the face, head and back and dragged her through the garden by her hair.

The court was told she got up but he punched her to the ground, “laughing and giggling in her face” as he did.

He then kicked her as she lay helplessly on the ground and stamped on her with such force he left a footprint on her body.

The court was told the pair had previously been in a relationship that was marred by his jealousy and toxic coercive behaviour. Phillip Morley, prosecuting, said Cannell, of Ringwood Road, Middlesbrough, had been in a relationship with his victim for two years until it came to an end in 2024.

He said: “The relationship had been good but he became more controlling.
