Premier museum and visitor attraction extended with £20m funding
The Gazette

WITH funding from the Ministry of Housing & Local Government, Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council devoted £20 million to extending Stockton's premier museum and visitor attraction.
-
Preston Park's existing park facilities required investment.
The abandoned aviary was in need of a new purpose.
Stockton had made its mark on the world in 1825, and the need to tell that story was essential for the museum whose grounds had played such a significant part.
The refurbished venue reopened on track on September 13th. The main attraction being a large two-storey extension to the original Preston Hall.
The new space enables more of the museum's extensive collection to be displayed, and offers a wider welcome to a range of national and international exhibitions.
If, like me, you were wondering why the new extension is called the Spence Building, wonder no more.
