Pijper sets scene for Bears’ big League win

ACE Pijper top-scored at Championship level for the first time in his young career with his highest ever points tally to help Redcar claim a comfortable victory that makes extending their season into the playoffs all but mathematically certain.

The 18-year-old Scot truly came of age with a blistering combination of raw speed and ever-increasing determination, which set the scene for the Agilia Bears’ biggest league win of the season.

But the always dominant display will likely be remembered by most for an incident after the finish of heat six that left Charles Wright and onetime Bears’ teammate Jake Allen rolling around on the floor.

Allen had won the race when the Redcar skipper, now aged 36, tangled and almost certainly unintentionally caused the 30-year old former Queensland State Champion to fall, causing some damage to his equipment.
