Middlesbrough Council focuses on rough sleepers in town

A LOCAL council has seen a small decrease in the number of people sleeping rough on its streets.
A rough sleeper seeks shelter close to a wall
Middlesbrough Council undertook its annual rough sleeper count on the morning of November 12 and results showed that while fewer people were found to be sleeping rough in “key areas” compared to the previous year, numbers were up on 2023.
Executive member for adult social care, Labour councillor Julia Rostron explained the process of the annual count as part of her report to full council, which will take place today.
She explained that staff and volunteers met at Stages Academy at 3.30am, ready for the count to take place between 4am and 6am, which was followed by a 30-minute debrief.
