Star Nypan but refused to talk about ‘other people's players'

ROB Edwards refused to be drawn on Middlesbrough's interest in Manchester City starlet Sverre Nypan - but admitted, as work continues to strengthen the squad, that he was a player he admires.

The 18-year-old midfielder, who joined City only a month ago in a £12.5 million deal from Rosenborg, is understood to be close to joining Boro on a season-long loan. Boro used their connections with City to secure the eye-catching deal, having scouted the Norwegian prospect themselves last season.

Nypan will bolster Boro's options in midfield, though is versatile and can play in any of the forward areas further up the pitch too.

While Boro's preference is always on permanent signings, Nypan, they hope, will be another example, like Ben Doak last season, of when Premier League loans can be effective for Championship clubs.
