Killer left officer with facial scar after attack

Kion McKenna was jailed for life after he stabbed gang rival Louis Johnson once in the chest at East Croydon station, in London, on the afternoon of January 27, 2020.

Judge Mark Dennis QC handed McKenna a life sentence with a minimum term of 16 years in 2020 after he was found guilty of murder at the Old Bailey.

Now Teesside Crown Court has heard how he assaulted two prison officers - leaving one with a permanent facial scar - at the Stockton jail.

Victoria Ball, prosecuting, said: “At around 5.30pm on April 17, 2024, both victims were working in block four letting prisoners out of their cells so they could go and get food.”

One of the officers, a woman, saw that two other officers were speaking with McKenna, 22, and he was refusing to go back in his cell.

Ms Ball said she could see “it was not going well” and she decided to assist the officers.

“It was clear he was agitated and his body language was described as aggressive,’ said Ms Ball.

At this stage, another officer, a man, saw the situation and also headed to assist.
