AN inquest has been opened into the death of a grandfather who was left paralysed after an industrial accident.

Dale Reed was working at the Port Clarence Renewable Energy Plant in October 2017 when he was struck by cladding.

It left the County Durham construction worker paralysed, with injuries including fractured bones throughout his body and organ damage.

He spent five months in hospital before being discharged and sadly died at his home in Chester-le-Street on June 20 this year, aged 55.
