THE grandad of a Teesside teenager facing drug smuggling charges overseas is desperate for answers.

Bella May Culley, 18, could be looking at up to 20 years or even life in prison after allegedly being caught with as much as 14kg of cannabis on her in Georgia, as pronounced by the country's officials.

William Culley expressed his fear that he might never be reunited with his 'intelligent' granddaughter, with relatives jetting off to Tbilisi to visit the troubled teen.

The 80-year-old said the family finds themselves in the dark about how the Billingham youngster came to be in Georgia but suggested she had "obviously" been taken advantage of, reports the Mirror. From his residence in Billingham, Mr Culley voiced his anxieties: "I'm terrified that she's in for a long sentence.
