FIRST HALF OF 2025 HAS SEEN MORE CASES THAN ALL OF 2024
THE first half of 2025 has seen more complaints submitted against Middlesbrough councillors than the entire duration of 2024.
The news was confirmed in figures shared with the council's standards committee, which met on Monday, July 14.
Between January and June 2025 (inclusive), there were a total of 24 complaints made against current councillors, compared to 21 complaints made in the entirety of 2024.
Deputy monitoring officer Ann-Marie Wilson said there had been an “improvement” in terms of the outstanding (unresolved) complaints, since the committee last met in April.
She said 14 were ongoing as of July 1, five of which were from 2024 and nine from 2025.
Previously, at the meeting in April 2025, the committee was told there were 13 outstanding complaints, with one of these being from 2023, which drew much criticism from councillors due to the lengthy timescale to get it resolved.
