Quake-hit northern Cebu gets UAE, Taiwan help

A total of 26,000 hygiene and food kits from the Government of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have been delivered to families affected by the 6.9-magnitude earthquake that struck northern Cebu on September 30, 2025.

The initiative underscored the UAE’s humanitarian support and the Department of Social Welfare and Development’s (DSWD) continuing disaster response efforts in northern Cebu.
The delivery and distribution of the donated goods began on October 11 and will continue until October 20 ensuring that assistance reaches the hardest-hit communities.
According to the DSWD Field Office 7, the aid was allocated to the following local government units (LGUs): San Remigio (5,400 kits); Tabogon (2,000 kits); Medellin (4,000 kits); Daanbantayan (4,000 kits); Borbon (2,000 kits); Bogo City (4,000 kits); and Tuburan (4,600 kits) .
Each kit contained essential food and hygiene items including rice, milk, coffee, canned goods, biscuits, sugar, a blanket or towel, and bottled water.
HELP FROM TAIWAN
Meanwhile, Taiwan has extended US $200,000 (approximately P11 million) in humanitarian assistance to northern Cebu.
Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) Representative Wallace Minn-Gan Chow formally tuned over the donation to the Cebu Provincial Government through the Manila Economic and Cultural Office (MECO).
