Piñol introduces ‘Farm Dreamers' program

With Cebu's agricultural potential at the center of a growing food security movement, former Agriculture secretary Emmanuel “Manny” Piñol unveiled a bold initiative tailored to overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), professionals, and the rest who dream of farming but lack land or time--the Farm Dreamers program.

Presented during the just-concluded Food Security Forum/Wagyu and branded beef production held in Danao City, the program introduces a new breed of participation- “virtual farmers” who invest in Wagyu cattle managed by a private breeding facility in Cebu.

When they are on vacation or during day-offs, though, one can visit the breeding facility themselves.

Through this scheme, those interested could purchase female cows that are then bred with Wagyu bulls via artificial insemination.

Each animal will be tagged with a microchip for real-time monitoring, allowing owners to track the health, growth, and lifecycle of their cattle remotely.

Once the cattle mature, they are sold, with proceedsless operational costs returned to the investors.

Piñol emphasized that this program is exclusively open to Cebu-based OFWs and workers, a decision rooted in accountability.
