Pepito appeals to Archival: Don't recall heavy equipment from landslide-prone Mabini

Acting Vice Mayor Winston Pepito has appealed to Cebu City Mayor Nestor Archival to reconsider the recall of three units of heavy equipment from Barangay Mabini, stressing that the barangay remains highly vulnerable to landslides.

Pepito made the appeal after learning that two of the three units—an excavator, a wheel loader, and a road roller—had already been pulled out from the area, while the remaining one continues to be used for clearing operations. He said he was informed that the last unit would also be removed once the ongoing work is completed.

“In fact, og moadto mo karon sa Agsungot unya boundary sa Mabini? Dili namo kaagi kay halos ang tibook kalsada ni-slide karon,” Pepito said, describing the difficult situation in the landslide-prone barangay.

He added that only one access road to Mabini remains passable due to the debris. To hasten clearing and response efforts, barangay officials had earlier requested the purchase of heavy equipment, citing delays whenever they had to borrow units from the city.

“Unya mag-suffer gyud ang pag-agi sa mga tawo ba. Especially karon, nisamot man ang grabe nga landslide... almost always, basta mag-ulan, maglandslide,” he said.
