Mandaue council to clarify policies on accident arrests

The Traffic Enforcement Unit of the Mandaue City Police Office (TEU-MCPO) has been invited to appear before the Sangguniang Panlungsod to clarify existing policies on the handling of vehicular accidents in the city.

This is pursuant to a resolution filed by Councilor Carlo Fortuna, who wants to shed light on the TEU’s policy of detaining or arresting drivers involved in accidents that result in death or physical injuries.

“I’ve read media reports kanang vehicular accidents bitaw, naay aksidente unya mabangga usually kanang naay mamatay or naay mangasamad ba,” said Fortuna.

Fortuna pointed out that in some cases, even if a driver causes the collision, it is the other party—the one who was hit—who ends up being arrested or detained.

He explained that under current traffic rules, if an accident results in physical injuries or death, someone is usually placed under detention.
