Just one ID for gov't transactions pushed anew
The Freeman
|July 13, 2025
To promote hassle-free and simplify public and private transactions, Congresswoman Karen Hope Garcia of Cebu’s 3rd District is pushing for the use of just one ID card for government and private transactions.
House Bill 1621, or the One Valid ID bill, seeks to provide sufficiency of one piece of identification for all public and private transactions in the country.
The said measure was first introduced by former 3rd District congressman Pablo John “PJ” Garcia, and was passed to second reading before the 19th Congress adjourned ahead of the May 12 elections.
Now, his wife, Karen, wants the passage of the said measure to eliminate the need to present more than one ID when transacting with government and private offices.
The proposed bill recognizes several types of IDs that can be used as sufficient valid proof of identity in transacting across all the government agencies, local government units, government-owned or controlled corporations, as well as private and non-government entities.
