There are three power shifts that have emerged in the last few days while the impeachment of the vice president is being deliberated upon by the Committee on Justice.
These are the apparent abandonment of the coalition by the Puno-led NUP, the election of three deputy speakers, and the Federal party affiliation of 11 House committee leaders from GMA-led Lakas. We should watch these new dynamics which may trigger a major upheaval in the House leadership and shall influence the results of the impeachment plenary voting and ultimately, the 2028 presidential election. The three new speakers are Representatives Rachel Marie Arenas of Pangasinan, Duke Frasco of Cebu, and Albee Benitez of Negros Occidental. This move is obviously geared at consolidating the powers of the Palace and the administration's control of three major vote-rich provinces, Pangasinan, Cebu, and Negros Occidental.
