INTENSE HEAT EXPECTED DURING HOLY WEEK 'Extreme caution'

Cebu City and the rest of Cebu Province are expected to experience high temperatures in the coming week, with the area placed under an "extreme caution" level based on the latest weather forecast.

The 7-day weather forecast released by the city government shows that its heat index is projected to be hottest on Holy Tuesday, April 15, at 40 degrees Celsius. This is around 12 noon to 1 p.m.

Other days until the 17th of this month will have the highest heat at 38 to 39 degrees Celsius around 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

These heat indexes fall under the “extreme caution” level based on the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) classification.

“The daily minimum temperature is typically observed between 5-6 AM, while the maximum is recorded between 1-2 PM. Please take extra precautionary measures and plan your daily activities accordingly,” the City’s Public Information Office’s announcement reads.

With this, Cebu City is unlikely to experience rainfall over the next seven days, according to resident meteorologist, Engr. Oscar Tabada.

Tabada also disclosed in his latest meeting with the Cebu City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council that rainfall in the city for April has dropped by 94.2 percent, recording only 3.2 millimeters compared to the normal 55.6 millimeters expected this month.
