Gilas falls to Chinese Taipei in poor FIBA Asia Cup start

A hot-shooting Chinese Taipei brought down Gilas Pilipinas, 95-87, in a stunning start to its campaign in the 31st FIBA Asia Cup at the King Abdullah Sports City in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

Ying-Chun Chen paced Chinese Taipei with 34 points built on six 3-pointers and 8-of-9 from the free throw line.

Brandon Gilbeck added 16 markers and nine boards, while Ting-Chien Lin and Robert Tsang Hinton had 14 apiece for Chinese Taipei, which has now won back-to-back against the Philippines dating back to their last meeting in the Asia Cup qualifier last February.
