The Freeman
|August 24, 2025
The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Saturday, August 23, confirmed that several Filipinos were among those killed in a tourist bus crash on a New York State highway.
The Philippine Consulate General in New York said it is closely monitoring developments and remains in coordination with local authorities.
“Our thoughts and prayers go out to those affected by this incident,” the DFA said in a statement.
“Respecting the privacy of the individuals, authorities have not released further information and instead relayed that they will be reaching out to the families of the victims directly,” it added.
Five passengers were killed Friday after their bus driver became distracted and lost control while driving near Pembroke, about 40 kilometers east of Buffalo.
The group had just visited Niagara Falls and was on its way back to New York City.
